CV screening vs structured interview analytics: what each stage tells you
How CV screening and structured interviews answer different hiring questions, and why teams should not force one stage to do everything.
CV screening and structured interviews are not direct substitutes. A CV is useful for verifying stated experience, qualifications and basic role requirements, but it does not by itself show how a candidate reasons through a scenario or explains a work example.\n\nA structured interview adds a different type of analytics. When candidates receive role-relevant questions and reviewers use consistent criteria, answers become easier to compare and the rationale behind an evaluation is easier to revisit. That does not make interviews perfect, but it reduces reliance on improvisation and first impressions.\n\nA stronger workflow therefore separates the jobs of each stage. Use the CV for information that can reasonably be established from the CV, use a work sample when you need analytics of a practical skill, and use a structured interview when you need examples, explanation, reasoning or communication. Do not add stages simply because the software can support them.\n\nWhen AI tools are used to assist with screening, summarisation or analytics organisation, preserve human review. The useful objective is less repetitive manual work and clearer analytics, not replacing the hiring decision with a single score.

Questions about this guide
Is CV screening enough to decide who to hire?
Usually no. A CV can support shortlisting, but employers often need other role-relevant evidence before making a final decision.
